Bountiful Tourist Attraction In Sorsogon

TIKLING ISLAND SORSOGON

This is one of the islands that have been newly introduced to the public, which means parts of it are still pristine and untouched. A notable feature of Tikling Island is its pinkish powdery sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. Because the beach is still clear of luxury resorts and nipa cottages, you get an unobstructed view of the shore. In fact, you’ll see the view of Tikling Island even while aboard a ferry going to Samar, another island in the Visayas.

If you wish to enjoy peace and quiet, this is where you should be heading. The only inhabitants you’ll find on the island are its caretakers.

The name of this island comes from a kind of bird which is also named Tikling. These birds abound on the island. But the one that is noticeable once we arrived is its pinking white sand. It’s something different from the usual white sand beach that we all love.

BARCELONA CHURCH RUINS

It was time to learn more of our history by visiting the church and ruins of Barcelona, Sorsogon.

If you are not that familiar with the province, I bet you’ll be surprised to know that not only Spain has Barcelona.Philippines also has one.

Barcelona Ruins is the first site I noticed when I got out of the van. After talking to some Tourism Officers there, they told me that  the early settlers of Barcelona are the tribal communities of Danlog which were mostly hunters and fishermen.

In the early 1800’s Spaniards arrived and claimed the entire community. They later named the place “Barcelona” in honor of then Capital town of Spain which is Cataluna.

They later constructed the church which is just across the Ruins Park, they call it St. Joseph Church which is now popularly known as Barcelona Church.

PAGURIAN ISLAND AND LAGOON (THE HIDDEN CHARM OF SORSOGO)

Located in Barangay Sawanga in Bacon District, Sorsogon City. At first I thought that this is a town where we could find a lot these mouth-watering breakfast dish that we all love. Or where the Bacon Festival is held.

The lagoon inside the rocky island was a sight to behold. Surrounded by rocks, the clear water was even more dramatic with the waves breaking through the rocks then into the lagoon.

BUHATAN RIVER ECO ADVENTURE

This was the highlight of the Sorsogon leg of our annual vacation… This newly launched yet unforgettable river cruise should make it not just on your Bicol itinerary, but your bucket list as well…

You might think what would make a river cruise so special? If the clear, calm waters of the Buhatan river, the fresh air, and the promise of a seafood feast doesn’t pique your interest immediately, think about a peaceful bamboo raft ride at night surrounded by thousands of fireflies lighting the way… That is the draw…

MT.BULUSAN NATIONAL PARK

LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) – The Bulusan Natural Park in Sorsogon province is set to reopen its tourist area to accommodate visitors, over a year after preventing access to it due to the eruption of Mt. Bulusan in June last year.

Benjamin Santiago, director of the Department of Tourism (DoT) for Bicol region, said the reopening of the park’s tourist area followed the move of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) this week to lower the alert level on Bulusan Volcano from 1 (abnormal) to zero (normal).

Santiago said trekking, hiking, and water paddling on the Lake Bulusan will be reopened as Phivolcs has noted a general decline in volcanic activities.

Lake Bulusan, the main attraction inside the 3,672-hectare park, is a developed tourist site with a trail around its 2-kilometer circumference and boating facilities on its 33-meter deep waters.

Previously the popular site had been closed following Mt. Bulusan’s steam-driven eruption on June 5 last year.

In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs said since last June, Bulusan’s upper slope has deflated and the occurrence of volcanic earthquakes has declined, signs that it was safe again to carry out human activities in the park’s tourist area.

With the reopening of the park, visitors to the tourist site will be able to marvel at the mountain’s peak, which stands at 1,559 meters above sea level with a base of area of about 400 square kilometers.
